In the lab, we are interested in studying how, why, and under what circumstances culture exerts an influence on the emotion system.
Our work is conducted using a number of methods, including self-report, coding of behavioral data, and collection of psychophysiological data. We study different aspects of the emotion system such as emotional reactivity or expressivity, emotion regulation, empathetic understanding of other’s emotions, and emotion language. Finally, we will study how the interaction of culture with these processes affects the psychological and physical well-being of the individual.
If you are an underrepresented minority at another undergraduate institution and would be interested in coming to work in the Culture, Health and Emotion lab for the summer, then consider applying for the Summer Research Opportunities Program. S.R.O.P. is an eight-week research program designed to attract undergraduate students from underrepresented groups who show promise for academic careers and to enhance their preparation for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors. In addition to the research experience, the program includes professional development workshops, seminars, field trips, and social activities. Our lab makes an effort to recruit one or two S.R.O.P. students each summer.
